The Onslaught
October 1st, 2007 by AjNormally I’m not so pro-girly products, but this new onslaught of the Dove campaign energizes (and sickens) me. I find myself glad that I don’t have any daughters, although I wonder what the male equivalent campaign would look like.

Aww crap AJ…..thanks for stressing me out even more than I already have been about raising a member of the female species *sigh*
What a freaking great campaign though….I’m all over it!

Ah, thank you for that. I needed to know I’m not alone. I have a daughter whose aunt decided to “girl her up” by visiting the MAC counter, buying her an ambercrombie kids outfit, picking up a cell phone, buying her perfume…and yet she can’t understand why I’d prefer her to climb a tree.

While I get discouraged at the nasties that are out there assaulting the self-esteem and image of women, I must admit that I’m excited to see how it motivates us to stand up against that. It drives me to ask God what God’s image is of me and of other women around me, and I think there’s true beauty in that seeking.
And like I said, I don’t think it’s easier with boys: it’s just different.
